Lori McCombs, Executive Director
Rebuilding Together, Inc is a
national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income homeowners, through home
renovation and repair.
Thanks to the more than 1,000 volunteers that made Rebuilding Day
2008 a success.
Rebuilding Together is the leading volunteer organization that, in partnership with the
community, rehabilitates the homes of low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly,
disabled, and families with dependent children. There is no cost to qualified homeowners
for the services provided. Non-profit facilities can also qualify for services. Although
plans and preparations go on throughout the year, volunteers come together for one
glorious day of hard work, Rebuilding Day, traditionally the first Saturday in May.
The national organization was founded in 1988 in Washington, D.C.
under the name Christmas in April. In July of 2001, Christmas in
April did a little of it's own renovating and took on its new name,
Rebuilding Together. The national organization helps organize and
promote the work of local affiliates in all 50 states. Since its
founding in 1994, the Greater Des Moines affiliate has revitalized
490 homes and non-profit facilities.
Mark your calendars now Rebuilding Day 2009 is May 2nd!
